Plymouth Products, Inc. began making Access boxes in the 1960's.
The company, then known as Plymouth Plastics, was looking to manufacture
a product to replace its business with the government (making and
selling plastic tubular housings for bazooka and mortar rounds used by
the US military in Vietnam).

The first product, still used today, was the 7" Roadway Valve Box designed in
conjunction with the City of Philadelphia Pennsylvania Water Department.
Plymouth Plastics went on to manufacture tooling for the 5-1/4" Roadway
Valve Box, 2-1/2 " Curb Service Box and the Standard Meter Box. When
the company was purchased by AMETEK, Inc. and moved to its current
location in Sheboygan, WI, more capital was invested in developing a complete
line of Access Boxes.
